Genetic Testing & Counseling

The C.R. Wood Cancer Center’s clinical genetics service offers hereditary cancer risk assessment, genetic counseling, and genetic testing by a specially trained oncology genetics counselor and physician. If you are concerned about your personal or family history of cancer, our experts can help you make medical decisions about how to manage your risk.

Would genetic counseling be helpful to me?

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, genetic counseling may be useful for you:

  • Have you or a close relative been diagnosed with cancer at an early age?
  • Do you have more than one blood relative with the same type of cancer? If yes, is the same type of cancer found in more than one generation?
  • Has anyone in your family had more than one type of cancer, not counting basal cell or squamous cell skin cancers?
  • Are you related to someone who is known to have an inherited mutation that can cause cancer?

If you are interested in learning about your hereditary risk for cancer, we encourage you to speak with your physician about a referral to the oncology genetics program.
