Glens Falls Hospital is designated as a New York State Stroke Center by the NYS Department of Health. As a Stroke Center, Glens Falls Hospital will improve the standard of quality and access to care for patients with a presumptive diagnosis of stroke.

The Stroke Center at Glens Falls Hospital, led by physicians and nurses with specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke, has established protocols to ensure a rapid response to patients who could potentially be suffering from a stroke or stroke symptoms.

Glens Falls Hospital offers immediate, enhanced brain imaging and evaluation for patients who present to the Emergency Department and could be suffering from a stroke or stroke symptoms. Using the latest treatments, the stroke team can assess the patient and ensure that they receive the appropriate, individualized care.

Glens Falls Hospital is also now able to accept inbound stroke patients via helicopter transport. This process ensures that all patients in the Adirondack region experiencing neurological symptoms get to the nearest designated Stroke Center with urgency whether they are transported by ground or air.

Additionally, Glens Falls Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital have announced a collaborative effort to offer Teleneurology as part of the New York State Stroke Center located at GFH. Click here to learn more.

  • Community Outreach Program offering education to the the community on stroke prevention and symptom identification

Glens Falls Hospital’s physician practice, Glens Falls Neurology, is conveniently located on the main hospital campus for access to follow-up stroke care.

The Stroke Center at Glens Falls Hospital is also now included within all local EMS protocols, which state that patients suffering from potential stroke or neurological symptoms must be brought to the nearest designated stroke center.

Jonathan Braiman, MD

Dr. Braiman received his Bachelor of Science from Tufts University. He then obtained his Medical Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He trained at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Uniformed Services Health Sciences University, and served our country in the United States Armed Services from 1987 – 1995. An upstate New York native, Dr. Braiman brings nearly 25 years of Neurology experience to Glens Falls Neurology and has been instrumental in the success of the Center of Excellence of Alzheimer’s Disease and the Stroke Center at Glens Falls Hospital.

Ruth E. Fish, RN, C-FNP, obtained her Bachelors in Science in Nursing at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She then obtained her Master’s in Nursing with a double major in Family Nurse Practice and Community Health. She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner who brings more than thirty years of experience in Geriatric and Internal Medicine to Glens Falls Neurology, as well as the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease and Stroke Center at Glens Falls Hospital. Ruth’s unique skills and passion for her work and patients are an asset to the program and to the community it serves.
