We love hearing from patients about their experiences at Glens Falls Hospital so that we can continuously strive to be the best we can be.
Erin WrightBennington, VT • Surgical Specialists of Glens Falls Hospital
In October of 2018, Chiropractor Erin Wright had a sudden recurrence of a lung condition she had experienced 14 years ago called spontaneous pneumothorax. After being free of any issues with her lungs for more than 14 years, she was shocked that it was happening again. She knew that it was time to consult a thoracic surgeon and called Glens Falls Hospital for help.
“I was referred to Dr. DeCunzo by my pulmonologist and was immediately impressed by the kindness and professionalism of his assistant Cheri on the other end of the phone. At my first appointment with Dr. DeCunzo, my husband and I knew we had picked the right doc for us. Cheri was absolutely lovely and Dr. DeCunzo took ample time to listen, explain, and answer all of our questions about my prognosis and options.
Having a collapsed lung in college was one thing, but dealing with this condition as a mom of four year old twins and the primary practitioner at my own chiropractic practice was quite another. Dr. DeCunzo valued my own opinions and concerns with regard to my care and we made the decisions on how to proceed together – just the way it should be between doctors and their patients.
In the end, after some complications and recurrences, Dr. DeCunzo performed three procedures on both of my lungs and I was a regular on the surgical recovery floor from October to November.
While it was easily one of the more stressful periods of my life the care I received at Glens Falls Hospital made it more than bearable and even enjoyable considering the circumstances.
From Cheri and Dr. DeCunzo to the teams of providers assigned to my surgeries and the incredibly kind and attentive nurses of the surgical floor, to say my time at Glens Falls Hospital was a “good experience” is quite the understatement. I feel so fortunate to have been in such fantastic care and can now report I am back to full duties as mom, wife and ‘Dr. Erin’.
Not only that, I was lucky enough to be taken care of with such urgency, that my husband and I were still able to surprise our children with a trip to Disney World for their 5th birthday in January which we had planned months before my surgeries and had worried perhaps might not pan out given the status of my health. I am forever grateful for Dr. DeCunzo and the teams of professionals that took care of me at Glens Falls Hospital and would highly recommend them to anyone considering their options for care.”
Jillian ValloBuskirk, NY • Surgical Specialists of Glens Falls Hospital
Jillian Vallo had recently moved to the North Country when she experienced a very sudden health issue. Not having a primary doctor she could turn to, she decided to entrust her health to the GFH team.
“When this health issue occurred I had to go to Cambridge Medical Center very suddenly and was then referred to Dr. Tillou and his staff at Glens Falls Hospital for surgery. I was a bit nervous since I was so accustomed to my primary doctors and hospital back home, but from the moment I walked into the office at Glens Falls, I knew that I was going to be in good hands. From Maureen, to the front desk staff, to Dr. Tillou, everyone was extremely kind, professional, and knowledgeable. They made me feel at home. I was so happy with my experience that I wish their office could be my primary doctor’s office!”
Carrie ZapponeWilton, NY • Joyce Stock Snuggery
Carrie Zappone of Wilton, NY had both of her children in the Joyce Stock Snuggery at Glens Falls Hospital. She says that while she and her husband were impressed with the level of care and attention they received when their son was born in 2016, it was their daughter’s birth experience this summer that really blew them away.
“After a normal and healthy pregnancy we found ourselves, on the afternoon of my due date, in a very unexpected and scary situation which required an immediate emergency Cesarean Section. The entire Snuggery staff acted promptly and professionally to keep us calm and safely deliver our baby girl, a mere 37 minutes after we arrived at the hospital. The level of care and attention we received both during the surgery and afterwards was remarkable. My daughter is healthy and thriving, and my recovery was smooth. My husband and I know we have the Snuggery staff to thank for that and we are so grateful to every nurse, doctor and other staff member we had the pleasure to interact with during our stay.”
Amy Calabrese O’NeilWilton, NY • Joyce Stock Snuggery
Amy Calabrese O’Neil
First time mom, Amy Calabrese O’Neil of Wilton, NY, gave birth to her daughter in the Joyce Stock Snuggery at Glens Falls Hospital. To this day, she still talks about how unforgettable her experience was as well as the elite patient-centered care she received.
“This was my first birthing experience and I was very fortunate to be able to experience it at the Snuggery. From the time I was admitted until the time we left we were given constant attention and focus by all the staff members. The room we were in was very clean and spacious and kept that way the entire time. The rotational staff was prompt and took the time to introduce themselves to me as well as help me with anything I needed. I had a very pleasurable experience and would highly recommend the Snuggery to any future mothers.”
Derek SlaytonQueensbury, NY • Adirondack ENT
When Derek knew he’d need to see an ENT specialist, he felt anxious. And then he met Dr. Kennedy.
“I never pictured a staff so caring of my needs and concerns, but Dr. Sean Kennedy’s staff, GFH’s staff, and Dr. Kennedy answered all my questions, put my mind at ease, and helped me to breathe again. Thank you.”

Gary Nelson of Queensbury, NY was not going to leave anything to chance when it came to his heart. So he turned to the Glens Falls Hospital team at Adirondack Cardiology for help!
“I woke in the middle of the night with chest pain and saw Dr. Hogan. He explained everything that was going on and that I needed a stent. I was completely at ease with his diagnosis and plan and had the surgery with Dr. Bashir, the following morning. My experience was excellent!”
Maura and Thomas RappSalem, NY • C.R. Wood Cancer Center
Maura and Thomas Rapp
After Thomas Rapp was diagnosed with tonsil cancer, he received his treatments at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center. While the cancer diagnosis is something no one wants to face, his wife, Maura, was glad to have Glens Falls Hospital helping her family through the journey.
“It’s important for us that you know how impressed we are with everyone who has had a hand in Tom’s care. From the moment we walked in, everyone we had contact with has treated us with a level of care, concern, and compassion that I’m sure is unmatched at any other hospital. They were all so supportive of not only Tom but of myself as well.
He received treatment during Survivors Week and we were amazed at the basket raffles, the treats and all the staff had done to make the patients feel special. Crazy hair day and mismatched clothes day was our favorite. As I sat in the waiting room while he received his radiation treatment I saw so many smiles as the therapists came out in their crazy get ups to get their patients.
I chose not to name names because there were so many people that were so good to us and I would feel terrible leaving anyone out. My fears of being surrounded by gloom and doom were put to rest very early on. You have a very special group of employees who deserve special recognition for the care they give.”
