The Queensbury Highschool Hockey program started a tradition of honoring those who fight the battle against cancer through a special hockey game. This year the team is honoring the clinical team at the Glens Falls Hospital’s CR Wood Cancer Center Tower 2 inpatient oncology unit.
Pink the Rink co-organizer Kari Nolan says, “The Queensbury Hockey Team is proud to continue the annual Pink the Rink fundraiser to support those affected by cancer. During these unprecedented times, the team would like to honor the Staff of Tower 2 Oncology Floor at the Glens Falls Hospital. The amazing care these individuals provide to their patients is truly remarkable. The dedication and support they give each and every day does not go unnoticed.”
“We are so honored to be chosen as this year’s Pink the Rink recipients,” said Maggie Carden, Tower 2 Oncology Nurse Manager. “What these young people do each year in support of cancer care is remarkable.”
Although the traditional Pink the Rink game is not possible this year, the team will be participating in a Skate-A-Thon to raise money for those affected by cancer. Names will be worn on a pink jersey by a Queensbury Hockey Player during the skate. Funds collected from sponsors of the Skate-A-Thon will go to support cancer patients and their families at the CR Wood Cancer Center.
The Skate-A-Thon will take place on Sunday, January 31, 2021, beginning at 12:30pm at the Cool Insuring Arena. Due to current restrictions, the event will not be open to the public, but will be livestreamed on Facebook. We encourage you to tune in and watch some of the skate and listen as each jersey recipient is recognized.
Following the skate, at approximately 2:15 the players will make their way to Glens Falls Hospital to deliver the jerseys to the Amazing Staff of Tower 2 Oncology Floor.
