Urinalysis

Method Name

Reflective spectroscopy

Aliases

Urinalysis; Biochemical Urinalysis; Dipstick Urinalysis; Routine UA, Urinalysis Biochem

Specimen Required

Submit urine in one of the following: Clean, dry container Kova tube / Yellow conical tube 7.0-8.0 mL of Urine preservative tube/Tiger top conical

Specimen Minimum Volume

2.0 mL of urine (without preservative) 7.0 mL of urine (in tiger top preservative tube)

Specimen Stability Information

Unpreserved specimen is stable for 2 hours at room temperature and 24 hours if the specimen is refrigerated. Urine in Urinalysis Preservative Tube (tiger-top) is stable for 72 hours at room temperature or refrigerated.

Special Instructions

Microscopic examination of the urine sediment is automatically performed if the protein, blood, leukocyte, or nitrate is positive. SPECIMEN COLLECTION: One to two ounces (30-50 milliliters) of urine–a sufficient sample is required for accurate results; sometimes you may be directed to collect a sample using a “clean-catch” technique: women should spread the labia of the vagina and clean from front to back; men should wipe the tip of the penis. Start to urinate, let some urine fall into the toilet, then collect one to two ounces of urine in the container provided, then void the rest into the toilet.

Performing Laboratory

As ordered. Turn around time is 2 hours.
