Specimen Stability Information

Transport at room temperature. Culturette swabs are stable for 48 hours after collection. *NOTE* Specimens that do not meet the above criteria will be rejected.

Special Instructions

This test is performed on pregnant women at 35-37 weeks gestation to rule out colonization with Group B Strep. This test screens for the presence of Group B Streptococcus only. Susceptibility testing is not performed unless the order indicates that the patient has a penicillin allergy.

Performing Laboratory

7 a.m. – 9 p.m.. Turn around time is 2 days.
