Specimen Required

– Vaginal/Endocervical specimens: must be submitted only in a COBAS Swab or Urine collection Kit. – For male or female urine collections: the patient should not have voided for at least 1 hr. prior to collection. Add urine to between fill lines

Specimen Minimum Volume

5 mL for untransferred urine, for COBAS tube fill to between lines

Specimen Stability Information

Vaginal/Endocervical :

  • After collection, transport and store swab at 2°C to 30°C until tested.
  • Specimens must be assayed within 12 months of collection.

Urine:

  • Urine specimen must be transferred to COBAS transport tube within 24 hr. of urine collection.
  • Urine collection is appropriate for both male and female patients.

Special Instructions

SPECIMEN REJECTION:

All Specimen types:

  • Specimen received in a grossly leaking COBAS transport tube.
  • Specimen received in expired transport media.
  • Unlabeled specimen or name discrepancy between specimen and requisition.

Female Cervical/Vaginal Specimens:

  • Any non-COBAS swab in the COBAS transport tube
  • Wooden shaft swab in an COBAS transport tube.
  • No swab
  • 2 swabs in an COBAS transport tube.
  • Dry specimen swab

Urine specimens:

  • Liquid level too below or above min/max lines on COBAS urine transport tube.

Urine specimen transferred to COBAS transport tube greater than 24 hr. after collection.
