Glens Falls Hospital Adds 2nd MRI System

Technology Will Be Used Primarily for Outpatient Care, Improving Access to Important Diagnostic Service

Glens Falls Hospital has added a second Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system on its main campus, providing improved access to this important diagnostic service, particularly for people in need of outpatient testing.

The MRI system, conveniently located in the Pruyn Pavilion at Glens Falls Hospital, will be primarily used for outpatient care. Appointments are now available for the ‘MRI at Pruyn’.

“The addition of the outpatient MRI, along with the expanded appointment times, allows us to deliver an even higher level of service and options for our patients,” said Edward Hanchett, Senior Director of Medical Imaging. “Our goal, as always, is to help our patients and their doctors receive the diagnostic answers they need as quickly as possible.”

MRI is one of the most valuable tools available to doctors today for the diagnosis of neurological, orthopedic and cancer-related conditions. It is a non-invasive imaging technology that uses powerful magnets and radiofrequency currents to produce three-dimensional, detailed anatomical images without the use of radiation.

The addition of the outpatient system is the second important enhancement to the hospital’s MRI services in the past year. In 2018, the hospital invested in a new advanced MRI system in the Medical Imaging area of the West Wing, which provides higher-quality images and faster exam times than a traditional MRI, making it of particular value for diagnosing stroke patients and other emergency cases. The open design also makes the system ideal for people bothered by feelings of claustrophobia. This system is primarily used for inpatient care and for outpatients in need of specialized imaging. The hospital has also expanded the availability of these MRI services into the evenings and on weekends. Appointments are now available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. and on weekends from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
