Audrey Turner, RN, CPAN was recently awarded Clinical Nurse of the Year 2022. This honor is given to nurses who promote their professional role, including capability, accountability, authority, and responsibility for their practice. These nurses embody the Glens Falls Hospital Nursing Department Core Values of Integrity, Diversity, Respect, Empathy, Advocacy, and Making a Difference. Audry practices in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, where she has contributed to quality improvement and is a positive force in supporting and precepting nurses who are new to the unit.

Gavin practices in the Emergency Department and colleagues admire his compassion and ability to handle the stress of caring for some of the hospital’s sickest patients.

Ron is a senior team member in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, where he is a leader who shares advice and his expert opinions to improve patient care.

Katie is cheerful and dependable, and patients often comment positively about how she impacted their care. Katie is an essential part of the team at the Adirondack ENT practice, who received 11 nominations from her colleagues.

Carolyn Marcantonio, BSN, RN, CPAN, was recently awarded Tenured Nurse of the Year 2022. This honor is given to a nurse with 25 or more years of service and is an expert clinician who practices patient-centered care and offers guidance to less-experienced nurses. The nurse promotes GFH, the nursing profession, and embodies the Glens Falls Hospital Nursing Department Core Values of Integrity, Diversity, Respect, Empathy, Advocacy, and Making a Difference. Carolyn practices in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and has been at Glens Falls Hospital for over 30 years. She has a positive attitude, promotes teamwork, and is a mentor to less experienced nurses.

Adam Gray, RN and Michelle Richards, RN were recently recognized with the Nurse Resident of the Year 2022 award. This honor is given to a nurse from our Nurse Residency Program who focuses on providing patient-centered care, functions effectively within the interdisciplinary team, and integrates evidence-based practice to deliver optimal care. Adam and Michelle practice on Tower 6 and Tower 3, respectively, and both have excelled in their clinical skills and promotion of teamwork on their units.

Casia Tomlinson, RN and Michelle Watkins, BSN, RN, RN-BC were recently recognized with the Nurse as Teacher of the Year 2022 award. This honor is given to the professional nurse involved in educational activities at the bedside, in the classroom, or in the community. Casia and Michelle are both on the Nursing Education team and are known for their ability to teach their colleagues. They are respected nurses whose ability to teach contributes to positive patient outcomes.

Norma Venner-Galusha, a Patient Care Associate, was recently awarded Patient Care Partner of the Year 2022. This honor is given to a nursing partner from any discipline that helps care for the patient. The partner is professional, collaborative, and promotes improving the patient experience. Norma works on Tower 3, and she is a hard worker who is genuinely kind and shows caring to her patients and colleagues.
Amanda Wing, BSN, RN, and Nicole Krause, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, NE-BC, were recently recognized with the Nurse Leader of the Year 2022 award. This honor is given to a professional nurse in a leadership position that fosters and supports a culture of nursing excellence. The nurse collaborates with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders to improve the patient experience. Amanda is the nurse manager of the Float Pool and Logistics, and Nicole is the nurse manager of the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. These leaders were nominated by their team for being caring, authentic, and advocating for the staff on the unit while promoting patient-centered care.

The Behavioral Health Unit Nursing Team and the Float Pool Nursing Team were recently awarded the Nursing Team of the Year 2022. This honor is given to a team for their contribution in addressing the organization’s strategic priorities. The team may be honored for contributions to improving quality care, staff satisfaction, fiscal responsibility, or patient experience. These teams persevered through difficulties brought on by the pandemic and give patient-centered care every day despite many challenges.

The Task Force to Reduce Physical Assaults on Healthcare Workers was recently awarded “The Glennie” for 2022. This honor is given to an interprofessional team that includes nurses and other disciplines for their contributions to quality in the organization. This award is for significant accomplishments that affect the organization as a whole. This interprofessional group led by Donna Gradoni Kirker, CNO worked to reduce assaults and injuries related to assaults. Interventions included de-escalation training for staff, emotional support bundles for staff, and enhanced security measures and responses dependent on the severity of the incident. The result was a 52% reduction in injuries to staff related to physical assaults in 2021.
