Useful For
The GIARDIA/CRYPTOSPORIDIUM QUIK CHEK test is a rapid membrane enzyme immunoassay for the simultaneous qualitative detection and differentiation of Giardia cyst antigen and Cryptosporidium oocyst antigen in a single test device. It is intended for use with human fecal specimens from patients with gastrointestinal symptoms to aid in the diagnosis of Giardia and/or Cryptosporidium gastrointestinal infection. The test results should be considered in conjunction with the patient history.

Specimen Stability Information
- Transport at room temperature.
- Specimens are stable for up to 1 week (7 days) after collection.
- *NOTE* Specimens that do not meet the above criteria will be rejected.
Rejected Due To
- Specimen not transported at room temperature.
- Specimens received greater than 1 week (7 days) after collection
Special Instructions
- Due to the increased sensitivity of the EIA over tradition O&P exam, only one specimen will be tested per week.
- Multiple specimen collections are not necessary.
- Specimens from inpatients developing diarrhea after 3 days of admission are not acceptable.
- NOTE: Giardia/Cryptosporidium screening has replaced the traditional O&P examination for routine O&P requests.
- If medical or travel history indicates that the possible presence of other ova or parasites be ruled out, a comprehensive O&P exam should be ordered.
- Pertinent patient history must accompany these requests.
