Useful For
This test is an in vitro nucleic acid amplification test for the qualitative detection of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and/or Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) in papsmears, swab and urine specimens.* The test utilizes amplification of target DNA by the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid hybridization for the detection of C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae. This test is intended to be used as a diagnostic as well as a screening tool.
Method Name
Cytology and Serology.
Aliases
CT, NG, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Cytology, Serology, Urine, Endocervical Swab
Specimen Type
Specimens for CT/NG testing can be provide in one of the three following specimen types
- ThinPrep papsmear (collection kit provided by Cytology department)
- Urine (collection kit provided by Cytology department)
- Cervical os swab (collection kit provided by Cytology department)
Specimen Required
CT/NG (Chlamydia and Gonorrhea): (Orderable: Chlamydia & GC DNA/NAA-by PCR)
- CT/NG testing can be performed on a Pap smear vial in addition to the Pap smear and HPV test
- NOTE: If CT/NG is the ONLY test being ordered (neither a Pap nor HPV test is being ordered), please use a Cobas urine or swab collection container instead of the ThinPrep Pap vial.
COBAS Urine collection:
- CT/NG (Chlamydia and Gonorrhea) (Orderable: Chlamydia & GC DNA/NAA-by PCR)
- Can be used for male or female patients
- **Urine must be transferred to the Cobas tube within 24 hours of collection
- Be sure to fill the Cobas tube with urine between the two black fill lines on the vial or it will be rejected
- For questions please contacted the Cytology department at 518-926-3830.
COBAS Endocervical Collection Swab:
- CT/NG (Chlamydia and Gonorrhea) (Orderable: Chlamydia & GC DNA/NAA-by PCR)
- Can be used for female patients only
- Place only ONE swab in the collection container
- The larger cotton swab is included in the collection kit to remove excess mucus from the cervical os and surrounding mucosa and then discarded (*DO NOT PLACE IN THE VIAL)
- The thinner “flocked” brush is meant for specimen collection from the endocervical canal and is placed in the collection vial
- For questions please contacted the Cytology department at 518-926-3830.
