Golf Tournament Raises $118,232 for C. R. Wood Cancer Center

A total of $118,232 was raised for The C. R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital at the 8th annual Cindy & Skeets Glens Falls Hospital Cancer Day Golf Tournament, held July 8 at the Glens Falls Country Club.

More than 200 golfers and 150 sponsors and donors supported the tournament, which has raised more than $815,000 for support programs for cancer patients and family members since its inception in 2009. This year’s tournament added 18 new sponsors, including The Queensbury Hotel as the major sponsor.

“We are continually grateful for our community’s overwhelming support for this tournament and our Cancer Center,” said Glens Falls Hospital Vice President of Development Cindy Sherwood. “With 200-‐plus golfers, plus 18 new sponsors joining our many long-‐term sponsors from past years, it is clear that this region recognizes and appreciates the importance the hospital plays in the lives of people living with cancer.”

“That’s what this community is all about — people coming together to help each other,” said Queensbury Hotel Owner Ed Moore. “We’re thrilled that The Queensbury could be part of the tournament, and appreciative to all the other businesses and golfers that joined us in support of The C. R. Wood Cancer Center.”

The tournament honors the memories of the late Cindy Ginsburg and Ralph “Skeets” Woodbury, two longtime and beloved members of the regional community who lived with cancer for many years and supported the Cancer Center in many ways. The hospital’s first Cancer Day Golf Tournament was held in 1974 and was later named in honor of Mr.

Woodbury, one of its founding organizers. In 2009, that tournament was merged with Cindy’s Summer Classic, which was founded in honor of Ms. Ginsburg.

The C. R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital is a nationally accredited community cancer center, offering advanced medical and radiation oncology treatments; cancer prevention and early detection programs; and a wide variety of innovative education and support programs for individuals living with cancer, as well as their family members.
