Glens Falls Hospital Renal Dialysis Center Award

Congratulations to the GFH Renal Dialysis Center. The team received the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Quality Award from IPRO (Island Peer Review Organization) for excellence in reducing long term catheter rates. The catheter rate dropped from 25% in January 2016 to 12.2% in December 2016.

Catheters should be the last resort for patients, as they are associated with a higher infection rate and are a major source of illness and mortality among dialysis patients. ESRD wants health care facilities to strive to get the catheter rate under 10% for patients with a catheter for more than 90 days.

The Renal Dialysis Center team works diligently to reduce catheter rates. They review patient information for those who have catheters at monthly conferences and quality meetings. The renal team also meets with GFH vascular surgeons and their staff every month to ensure patients are receiving the best plan of care available. It is their collaboration that has earned them this distinction. Keep up the great work!
