At Glens Falls Hospital, we recognize a hospital stay can be scary especially
for children. Thats why we continue to offer a dedicated pediatric unit exclusively
for children from newborn to 18 years of age. Our newly
renovated unit, dubbed The Kids Cove, includes 11 private
rooms and a playroom. A central nurse station provides
better visibility for patient monitoring and more peace of mind for parents.
This bright and colorful setting features an ocean theme with
tropical fish wallpaper borders in each patient room, floor tile patterns
resembling ocean waves and even fish and star ceiling tiles.
The unit also features a special Ouch Room in
which all treatments, such as IV hookups and dressing changes are performed. The Ouch
Room is provided so pediatric patients are able to associate their hospital room
with rest and relaxation, rather than with medical procedures.
Our pediatric program also includes Bearly Ill,
a day care program for children who are unable to attend school or conventional day care
due to minor illness.
To help children learn more about our Hospital, our pediatric nurses offer special
school tours for first graders from across our region. Tours include a visit to an
operating room and the opportunity to see some of the technologies and meet some of the
people who would care for them during a visit to the Hospital.
Our pediatric nurses also bring their compassion and expertise into the community,
providing services at the Double H Hole In The Woods
Camp, a summer camp for
children with critical and life threatening illnesses.
