You and The Glens Falls Hospital Guild

The year was 1903. The Parks Hospital had been providing care to the sick for a little more than three years, and plans were underway to expand the role and value of the hospital in the community. But one important piece of equipment was missing – an ambulance.

The potential of the hospital so inspired one local woman, Lillian Wendall, that she brought together a group of her friends to raise the funds necessary to purchase the badly needed horse-drawn vehicle. The friends christened themselves the Hospital Guild and, in doing so, began the most enduring volunteer contribution in the hospital's 100-year history.

Since 1903, the members of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild have contributed more than 1.8 million hours of volunteer time and helped raise more than $2.8 million for patient services and equipment. Today, more than 730 volunteers provide support for the patients and families who receive services in over 70 hospital departments and off-site locations.

"Glens Falls Hospital would not be the institution it is today without the tremendous contributions of the Hospital Guild," says Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer David Kruczlnicki. "And those contributions extend far beyond fundraising. The Guild brings a level of enthusiasm and a spirit of warmth to their work that simply can't be expressed in dollars and cents."

Junior Volunteers

Terrific Teens Helping Our Hospital

Teenagers ages 13 - 18 may volunteer a minimum of two hours per week as part of a six-month commitment to the Glens Falls Hospital Guild. This experience provides opportunities for personal development by building competence and confidence in customer service, decision-making, and organizational and leadership skills in a healthcare environment. Junior volunteer contributions are not only recognized by Glens Falls Hospital but shared with the students' individual schools each year.

Junior Volunteer Award

Volunteering is its own best reward, but as further incentive for young adult volunteers, the Glens Falls Hospital Guild presents a $500 award each year to one high school senior for use in pursuing higher education. This award is presented to a junior volunteer who has accumulated a minimum of 100 hours during his or her junior and senior years of high school.
