The Medical Center
at Wilton
Opened in January 2006,
Rehabilitation Services is be among the services
offered at The Medical Center at Wilton, joining an extensive list of sites
affiliated with Glens Falls Hospital that offer outpatient rehabilitation
services.
Among the program’s offerings will be a 7 1/2-foot wide by 14-foot long
aquatic rehabilitation pool with a variable speed underwater treadmill and
powerful water jets for deep tissue massage and resistance training. The
HydroWorx® 1000 Series™ pool also features ergonomic stairs and double
handrails. Gait training and sports-specific activities can be easily
duplicated with the underwater treadmill, which can vary in speeds from 0 to
7.5 mph in safe .2 mph increments. Varying water depths allow clinicians to
treat multiple patients at different stages of weight bearing status.
Sharon Luckenbaugh, director of Rehabilitation Services, anticipates the
Wilton location will quickly put its aquatic therapy pool to good use based
on recent experiences with another state of the art therapy pool at its new
Queensbury outpatient rehab center. “Aquatic therapy allows our patients to
do more weight-bearing exercises earlier in the rehab process and
dramatically increases recovery,” said Luckenbaugh.
In addition to aquatic therapy, The Medical Center at Wilton location
provides physical therapy and occupational therapy
in three private treatment rooms. The Rehabilitation Services staff alsos
include a pediatric evaluation team offering physical therapy, occupational
therapy and speech pathology. |
