Lite Gait
The Center features a rehab gym, where patients will spend their therapy
sessions working on a host of rehab apparatus, including floor mats,
parallel bars and a Lite Gait, which helps them gradually put weight on
their lower extremities.
The
patient sits in a harness that is lifted off the ground and then wheeled
into position above a
treadmill. The Lite Gait harness controls posture and securely supports
the patient, allowing the therapist to concentrate on observing and
correcting the patient's gait pattern, rather than focusing on holding the
patient. Gradually throughout the course of their therapy, the therapist
can increase the load their legs bear and the treadmill's speed. The
Lite Gait system also allows the therapists to work on balance training
with the patient. Because the patient can freely move his/her limbs, the
therapist can utilize sit-to-stand techniques, as well as reaching
activities as a part of the training session. One of the biggest
advantages of Lite Gait is that throughout the therapy sessions, the
patient is kept in a supported environment, free from falls. This secure
environment instills confidence in the patient and therapist, allowing
both to concentrate on improving gait patterns.
