In 1998, the hospitals Board of Governors established the
Physician Award of Excellence to honor deserving candidates based on the following
criteria: demonstrates expertise in their medical discipline; distinguishes themselves by
helping to grow and develop a hospital program or service; exemplifies the values of Glens
Falls Hospital; shows leadership to their peers and hospital staff members; has been noted
by patients, families and/or other clients for their excellence, and has helped to advance
and improve the hospitals reputation for excellence.Paul
F. Bachman, M.D., was recently recognized by the Glens Falls Hospital Board of Governors
with the Harry M. Mac DePan Physician Award of Excellence during the
Boards Annual Meeting and Holiday Dinner.
Since arriving in the Glens Falls area in 1985 after having
provided care for a number of years to Native Americans on a Navajo Indian Reservation in
Arizona, Dr. Paul Bachman has proven to be an exceptionally skilled physician and
compassionate human being who has never hesitated to help Glens Falls Hospital whenever
asked. Over the years, he has repeatedly volunteered to help in the improvement of
Hospital services and activities while simultaneously garnering the respect of his peers
as an exceptional clinician.
Dr. Bachman has served as Chair of the Medical Care Review
Committee of the Department of Medicine/GFH Medical-Dental Staff since 1995. He has also
served on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee over that same period, and, in recent
years, he has been a member of the Capital Equipment Physician Cabinet and the Informatics
Physician Advisory Group. In each of these volunteer positions, Dr. Bachman has
distinguished himself in his dedication, thoughtful input, and participation. He has
provided leadership by building teamwork, understanding and improvement to patient care in
each committee or project in which hes become involved. Of equal importance, Dr.
Bachman is known by physicians, nurses and other caregivers throughout GFH as one who is
always willing to share his knowledge and expertise with others.
Dr. Bachmans commitment to the core values held dear by GFH
respect, responsiveness, responsibility extend beyond his patient care in
this region and was evident when he and his family spent four months in Kijabe, Kenya,
Africa in 2000. During that time, he cared for natives of that region while his wife and
children helped in various ways as well.
When Dr. Bachmans nomination for the Dr. Harry
Mac DePan Physician Award of Excellence was posed to several of his physician
colleagues, the reaction was positive and unequivocal: exemplary physician,
gives of himself unsparingly, an excellent participant in the Department
of Medicine, and a doctors doctor.
He is a graduate of Canisius College, SUNY Upstate School of
Medicine, and completed his internship at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY. He
is board certified in internal medicine and holds additional certifications in geriatrics.
He has served as chief medical officer of the Northern Division of Hudson Headwaters
Health Network (HHHN) since 1993.
Dr. Bachman resides in Queensbury with his wife, Jane, a nurse
practitioner. They have four children, ranging from elementary school to college age.
