I. Soule, MD
Since arriving from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1981, Dr.
Soule, specializing in Neurology, has maintained a dependable presence on the Hospital's
Medical/Dental Staff. Through his leadership, Neurology has grown into a full-service
program where sophisticated neuro imaging and electrophysiologic testing complement
skilled neurosurgeons.
His appointment as chairman on numerous committees has helped
build teamwork and raised their profile among his professional colleagues. As Chairman of
the Institutional Review Board for nearly 20 years, Dr. Soule has overseen the advancement
of human research protocols - numbering some 200 protocols today -- while protecting
patient rights and safety. His work as Chairman of the Ethics Committee addresses
complicated end-of-life decisions physicians must face together with patients' families.
As Chairman of the Pastoral Care Support Committee, he helped establish a pastoral care
service, hiring a chaplain and siting a new chapel. He currently lends his insights to the
Hospital Board of Governors and the Board of Adirondack Health Services.
Dr. Soule graduated cum laude from the University of Vermont
School of Medicine in 1970. An internship at Duke University in 1970-71 was followed by
residencies in neurology from 1971-72 at the University of Vermont and at Letterman Army
Medical Center in San Francisco in 1973-75. He completed a fellowship in neuropathology
from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC, in 1978-79. He is board
certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the
American Academy of Neurology.
A retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, Dr. Soule resides in
Glens Falls with his wife Ruth, clinical nurse specialist. They celebrated their 25th
wedding anniversary this year and have two grown children.
