Dr. Farhana Kamal Wins “Mac” DePan Physician Award of Excellence |
 Dr. Farhana Kamal, a member of the GFH Medical Staff since 2003, has been named the 2008 winner of the Harry M. “Mac” DePan Physician Award of Excellence. The awardee is selected based on a set of criteria, including demonstrated expertise in their medical discipline, participation in activities to improve quality, service and cost-effectiveness at the hospital and demonstrated interaction/involvement with GFH programs, services and staff.
A graduate of Sindh Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Kamal completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Long Island College Hospital and is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Kamal has served as Clinical Director for the GFH Hospitalist Program since 2005. In this role, she provides oversight to the clinical programs and services of the program as well as the department’s clinical policies and procedures. She has worked to build clinical relationships with subspecialists to support care standards and has been involved in numerous ongoing Continuing Medical Education (CME) developments. Her colleagues cited a number of Dr. Kamal’s strengths on their award nomination forms, including her excellent diagnostic/clinical skills in acute care presentations, her comfort in emergency and critical care situations, her strong communication skills and her tireless work ethic. Dr. Kamal has been an active member of the Medical Staff by participating on the Clinical Peer Review (CPR) Committee, Critical Care Committee, Department of Medicine and Resource Utilization Committee. Dr. Kamal resides in Gansevoort with her husband, Syed Kamal, MD, and their three children, Sarah, Ramsha and Usher. She and her husband both became United States citizens in 2008. |
