Ask Barbara "B.J." Martin why shes spent nearly half her
34-year nursing career in day surgery and she doesn't hesitate: "The patients," B.J. says. "I enjoy the technical aspects of surgery, but what I really like is the high level of patient interaction that's possible with day surgery, especially the level we provide at the Day Surgery Center." B.J. has worked in day surgery for 15 of her 28 years at Glens Falls Hospital. Her great knowledge of, and affinity for, her work recently earned her the position of Director of Perioperative Services, overseeing the day-to-day operations in both the Day Surgery Center and the Hospital's Inpatient Surgical Suite. A registered nurse, B.J. received her bachelors degree from Russell Sage College and is working toward her masters degree. Prior to coming to Glens Falls, she worked at hospitals in Syracuse and Albany. B.J. and her husband, Kenneth, live in Saratoga Springs. They have four adult children and one grandson.
