C.R. Wood Cancer Center hosts prostate/colon
cancer screening March 12
GLENS FALLS – ScreenSavers and the Healthy Living Partnership will sponsor a
free colon and prostate cancer screening at The C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens
Falls Hospital on Monday, March 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.
ScreenSavers will conduct a complete prostate cancer screening, consisting of
two examinations – a blood test that measures the level of Prostate Specific
Antigen (PSA) and a physical exam of the prostate, called a Digital Rectal Exam
(DRE), to feel for abnormalities on the prostate’s surface. Results will be
mailed to the participant and a designated health care provider. ScreenSavers
encourages annual prostate cancer screenings for men age 50 and older; men with
one risk factor should start annual screenings at age 45 and more than one risk
factor at age 40.
The Healthy Living Partnership of Glens Falls Hospital will provide free
information and free FOBT screenings for colon cancer. Current national
screening guidelines recommend colon cancer screenings for both men and women
age 50 and older; those with increased risk factors should start earlier and may
be referred for a screening colonoscopy. March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month.
The C.R. Wood Cancer Center is located on the first floor of the Pruyn Pavilion,
102 Park St., Glens Falls. To schedule a prostate cancer screening appointment
or for more information, please call (518) 782-3899;
for colon cancer screening questions, call (518)
926-6570. Walk-ins are welcome.
