Inspired by the girls varsity squad, who hosted a Power of Pink Soccer Game fundraiser in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the
girls modified team held their own match, wearing homemade pink jerseys with a breast cancer awareness ribbon pinned over their hearts. The team also conducted a Pass the Soccer Ball activity and a bake sale.
Soccer coach Jennifer Donovan explained that her girls enthusiastically took
on the challenge of raising some local community awareness on an important
health topic. “Even at this age, these 12- and 13-year-olds realize that breast
cancer may affect them or a family member later in life, and they wanted people
to be aware,” she said, adding that the team specified they wanted the money
specifically designated for The Breast Center.
The Breast Center brings together the region’s most comprehensive breast cancer
prevention, education, screening and support services – along with an
experienced and understanding staff – in one conveniently located, comfortably
designed and technologically advanced facility.
