Nuclear Medicine

Exams done in Nuclear Medicine involve the injection, inhalation or swallowing of a small amount of radioactive material with imaging to follow using a special camera. Sometimes, images are acquired hours or even days after the initial injection. These exams are used to aide in the diagnosis of certain conditions of the body.

In general, nuclear medicine studies provide a low dose of radiation. Side effects and allergies to the material are extremely rare.
