DEXA Bone Densitometry
(Osteoporosis Screening)

DEXA Scanning (Duel Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) is an exam to measure your bone mass. It will let you know if you are at risk for osteoporosis.

The results of this scan will help your physician to determine what, if any, steps should be taken to improve your bone health.

You can find more information on Osteoporosis at the National Osteoporosis Foundation website.

DEXA Scans should be done prior to the following tests, or five days after. The contrasts for these exams may interfere with your scan.

Note to patients: For your appointment, wear loose-fitting clothing with no metal objects or metal zippers near the waist or hip areas.
