In collaboration with other members of the Patient Services Leadership Team, the Clinical Nurse Specialist is accountable to facilitate the delivery of quality patient care and nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse Specialist achieves this goal by utilizing the five domains of practice which demonstrates the advanced knowledge and skills required for specialty nursing: Leader, Consultant, Educator, Researcher and Expert Practitioner. The CNS promotes excellence in nursing and patient care in a specific clinical area or program at GFH. The CNS is a nursing leader and clinical resource to all nurses and to other members of the health care team. The CNS has accountability and responsibility for the promotion of professional growth, nursing expertise, progressive nursing practice, the development and application of specialty practice standards and regulatory compliance. The CNS is accountable for nursing practice within his or her specialty area. This role requires advanced clinical knowledge and skills as well as the ability to assist nurses in the development of expert nursing practice.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for ongoing clinical supervision of maternal/child health staff.

Education/Experience:
MS in Nursing required with an area of concentration in maternal/child health. 5 years recent clinical experience, including 3 years in the specialty.
Each individual is responsible for maintaining current knowledge related to the age and development of the patient population in areas in which they work.

Licenses/Certificates/Registrations
-Current New York State license and registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
-Certification as Clinical Nurse Specialist in maternal/child health.
-certification in Fetal monitoring.
-certification in Neonatal resuscitation preferred.
