Milestones and
Accomplishments
Since its founding in 1897, Glens Falls Hospital has been known for its medical
innovation and patient responsiveness. The establishment of unique and progressive
programs and services has elevated the hospital far above what is normally expected from a
healthcare facility serving a community of this size, and has inspired many other
hospitals to follow suit. The following is a look at some of the many noteworthy
accomplishments of your community hospital:
 | Established The C.R. Wood Cancer Center, an integrated
program of cancer care services including state-of-the-art treatment, prevention and
detection; nutrition services; counseling; and the Uniquely You boutique, designed
especially for cancer patients and their families. |
|
|
|
 | First hospital in New England to offer inpatient obstetrical care in an innovative,
family oriented approach now termed LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery and post partum), in
which delivery and follow-up care are provided in a private hospital room. The home-like
atmosphere of The Snuggery has been subsequently adopted by hospitals throughout the
nation and today has evolved as the norm for obstetrical care. |
|
 | First hospital in New York State licensed to offer same-day
surgery, allowing patients to have surgery and return home within 24 hours. |
|
 | One of only two programs statewide to offer low-cost, mobile
mammography services. Since
its beginning in 1992, the mobile mammography unit has seen nearly 21,000 women in five
counties, traveling a total of more than 35,000 miles. |
|
 | First hospital in Upstate New York to offer laparoscopic gall bladder surgery. |
|
 | The regions only provider of child care specifically for ill children.
Bearly Ill offers both hospital employees and community residents an
alternative setting for children with illnesses that keep them out of school or
conventional day care. |
|
 | One of only two programs statewide to provide free, comprehensive mobile dental services
to needy schoolchildren in Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Hamilton and Essex counties.
Since first hitting the road in 1976, the Mobile
Dental Van has treated more than
15,000 children. |
|
 | The first hospital in the region to offer Boot Camp for Dads, a program
specifically designed to help dads prepare for the birth of their first child. |
