The New York State Department of Health recognizes breastfeeding as a key public health priority that improves both infant and maternal health. The Joyce Stock Snuggery at Glens Falls Hospital is pleased to recognize two RN’s for their continued efforts to stress the importance of breastfeeding and for becoming International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).
Paula Hanchett, RN, and Jodie Smith, RN, each achieved the prestigious certification by meeting the high standards set by IBCLC Examiners. The IBCLCs provide expert breastfeeding and lactation care and education prior to delivery, during the delivery stay and after discharge when special needs arise.
“Over 55% of women who deliver at GFH choose to breastfeed their babies,” said Diane Kerchner, Director, Women and Children Services. “They are supported by an environment that encourages breastfeeding and highlights its importance to both the mother’s and baby’s health.”
“Paula and Jodie are committed to a vision where all children are provided the opportunity for the healthiest beginning possible,” said Terry Celadon, Snuggery Nurse Manager. “We commend Paula and Jodie for working toward this certification and for their continued efforts to promoting a high standard for patient care."
