Visitor Guidelines

Glens Falls Hospital recognizes the important role visitors can play in helping someone through a hospital stay. For the comfort and safety of the patient you are visiting, we ask that you please observe the following guidelines:

  • Only two visitors at a time.
  • Visitors must be at least 13 years of age, except under extraordinary circumstances; special requests should be made with the patient's nurse. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  • Because of the documented harmful effect of smoking, Glens Falls Hospital maintains a smoke-free environment.
  • Due to concerns for the safety of our patients, all visitors are asked to clean their hands before and after visiting patients. Hands may be cleaned with soap and water or with alcohol-based gel available throughout the hospital and in every patient room.
  • Many patients are on controlled diets. Please check with the nurse before bringing in food from the outside.
  • Please do not use rest rooms located in patient rooms. A nurse or other Glens Falls Hospital staff member can direct you to the nearest public rest room.
  • Firearms and other weapons are not permitted on hospital property, except in the case of on-duty law enforcement officers.
  • Cell phones may be used if they are more than one meter (40 inches) from any energized piece of medical equipment. If any medical equipment shows signs of malfunction, the cell phone, PDA or wireless phone must be shut off immediately. In the immediate vicinity of T5, T6 or the Cardiac Cath Lab, visitors are encouraged to turn off their cell phones.

These guidelines have been established to ensure your loved one or friend is treated in a quiet, healthful environment, with time for visitors as well. In semi-private rooms, the privacy and need for rest of both patients should be of the utmost consideration. Your cooperation in maintaining a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere for all patients is greatly appreciated.

In the event that the hospital must restrict a patient's visitors or other forms of communication based on therapeutic effectiveness, this will be fully explained to the patient and family/freind and will be determined with their participation. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this policy.
