Early lung cancer screening study education
program
GLENS FALLS – The C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital announces
it is recruiting smokers and former smokers interested in learning more about an
international screening study to detect early lung cancer.
An introductory seminar
(future dates to be announced)
for
International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (I-ELCAP)
includes a presentation and an opportunity to ask questions.
Thoracic surgeon Louis DeCunzo, Jr., MD, and medical oncologist Robert Sponzo,
MD, co-direct the local study.
The criteria for entering the study will include the
following,
1)
you must be 45 years or older
2)
current or former smoker
3)
you must have smoked the equivalent of 1 pack of cigarettes per day for
25 years or more.
4)
you may not have a diagnosis of lung cancer
5)
you may not currently be under a doctor's care
for other forms of cancer or have been treated within the past five years.
6)
you must have a Primary Care Physician
7)
you must be able to pay $150 for the CT Scan which will be done twice,
once on entry and again in one year.
The education session must be
attended and are scheduled as a group is filled. If you would like to be placed
on the list for the education session please fill out the online questionnaire
and return it. Confirmation of an education
session is mailed to those persons who have completed
the online form. A complete over view of the program
and requirements will be presented at the session by one of the physicians.
