School-Based Health & Education
With a goal of improving
access to health care for children in rural portions of our service area, Glens Falls
Hospital has established school-based health and education programs at the Hadley-Luzerne
Middle School and the Whitehall Elementary School.
The Hospital staffs each school with a physician assistant, while a Hospital case
manager divides her time between the two schools. These health care professionals work in
cooperation with the individual schools nurses and physicians to ensure that
children are receiving the proper health education and treatments. Services are provided
free of charge to approximately 500 children each year, more than 100 of whom are
typically uninsured.
This program has helped so many families that would not normally seek health
care," said Patricia Hendrix, Principal of Whitehall Elementary School. "It has
improved our attendance tremendously and enriched our school in many different ways...I
dont know how we ever got along without it.
