What is Home Health Care?
Home Health Care is a way of providing for an individual's health care needs in the privacy and comfort of his/her own home.

Who Provides the Care?
The care is provided by a Home Health Aide who is carefully screened, fully trained and certified.  The Aide is supervised in the home by a registered nurse.

What Services are Provided?
A Home Health Aide . . .

bullet

Can provide personal care:  bathing, feeding, dressing, ambulation and exercises

bullet

Can help with meals:  shopping, planning, cooking, and special diets

bullet

Can do light housekeeping and laundry

bullet

Can provide companionship, assistance with rehabilitation, or respite for a caregiver.

How to Choose a Home Health Aide Agency:

1.  Has the Home Health Aide been screened, trained and received continuing in-service education?

2.  Does a professional person assume responsibility for your care?  Is that person available in an emergency?

3.  Does a licensed person from the agency visit your home at regular intervals to assess the quality of the care you receive?

4.  When personal care is to be given as part of a plan of care, is nursing supervision provided to the aide?

6.  Does the agency have legal authorization to operate?  In New York State it must be certified or licensed.

7.  Does the agency have a board of directors or advisory committee representative of the community?  Is a list of those persons available?

8.  Is the agency surveyed by the state Department of Health?

9Does the agency have a sliding fee scale?

Greater Adirondack Home Aides meets all the above criteria.

What's the Cost of Service?
The fee is based on the actual cost of providing the service.  For eligible persons, the fee may be partially or fully offset by Medicare, Medicaid, insurance or other funding sources.
