Diagnostic Catheterizations

For people experiencing possible symptoms of heart disease, the cardiologists of Adirondack Cardiology Associates and the staff of the Glens Falls Hospital's Juckett Family Cardiovascular Center provide diagnostic cardiac catheterizations.

In this procedure, a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel in the patient's upper thigh and threaded to the heart. A dye is then injected through the catheter into the blood vessels, allowing blockages or abnormalities to be easily detected by x-ray. These detailed images allow doctors to determine whether a coronary angioplasty or other intervention is needed to improve blood flow or the overall functioning of the heart.
