Coronary Angioplasty

Whether in an emergency, or on an elective basis, the cardiologists of Adirondack Cardiology Associates and the staff of Glens Falls Hospital's Juckett Family Cardiovascular Center can open clogged arteries and restore healthy blood flow through coronary angioplasty.

In this important procedure, the cardiologist makes a small incision in the patient's upper thigh and threads a balloon catheter up to the clogged coronary artery.

Upon reaching the obstruction, the balloon on the end of the catheter is inflated, expanding the walls of the artery and restoring the flow of blood.

A small wire tube, called a stent, is placed inside the artery to hold open the walls and act as a tunnel for the blood to flow through.
