Our Medical Oncologists
Eric Pillemer M.D., PhD
Dr. Pillemer received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University, and his medical degree and doctorate in cancer biology at Stanford University, where he subsequently completed his fellowship. Dr. Pillemer joined the staff of The C.R. Wood Cancer Center in the fall of 2007 from the University of Vermont where he practiced as a medical oncologist. Dr. Pillemer has an active interest in familial and hereditary cancer. He completed an intensive community cancer genetics and research program at the City of Hope National Medical Center in 2009 with the goal of developing a program at Glens Falls Hospital. Dr. Pillemer is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
John Stoutenburg, M.D.
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Stoutenburg earned his medical degree at the State University of New York at Syracuse, and served his residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Stoutenburg joined The C.R. Wood Cancer Center staff in 2005. He has an active interest in clinical research and the management of kidney cancer, melanoma and lymphomas. Dr. Stoutenburg is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology.
Dr. Sponzo is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and received his medical degree from Tufts University. He completed his oncology training at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, and has been a practicing oncologist for more than 30 years. Dr. Sponzo moved to the Glens Falls area to start a cancer program in 1990, after practicing in the Albany area for many years. He has served as the medical director of the C. R. Wood Cancer Center for the past 16 years. Dr. Sponzo has participated in cancer research throughout his career and is the principal investigator for national groups including the NSABP and CTSU. He has authored over 40 publications and belongs to several national oncology societies. Dr. Sponzo has a special interest in breast cancer, cancer prevention and cancer center development. He is a member of the Board of Directors, as well as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board, of the Lake Champlain Cancer Research Organization. He is also a member of the Hole in the Woods Camp Medical Advisory Board.
Dr. Gillani earned his medical degree from Dow Medical University of Health Sciences, and continued his postdoctoral training at Michigan State University before moving to Vermont where he completed his fellowship at the University of Vermont. He joined The C.R. Wood Cancer Center staff in 2004. Dr. Gillani has an active interest in clinical research and the management of solid tumors and blood disorders. He is the principal investigator for national research groups including CALGB and CTSU. He is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology.
Dr. Gaiotti-Grubbs has joined the C. R. Wood Cancer Center physician team, having returned to her hometown of Glens Falls in July 2009. She earned her medical degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine, served her residency at New York University Medical Center, and completed her fellowship training at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
Dr. Gaiotti-Grubbs is board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology.
Dr. Mark Hoffman is a graduate of Columbia University and Albany Medical College. He then completed training in Hematology and Oncology at Baystate Medical Center and the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital.? Dr. Hoffman has been practicing medicine in the greater Glens Falls and Washington County area since 1986 and joined the C.R. Wood Cancer Center in 2010. Dr. Hoffman sees patients at the Cancer Center and at the Greenwich Regional Medical Center. Dr. Hoffman is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.
Jean VanAuken, RPA-C
Jean received her bachelor's degree from Cornell University and attended the Touro College Physician's Assistant Program, where she graduated as valedictorian. She began her career in oncology in 1997 and became a member of the C.R. Wood Cancer Center staff in 2000. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New York Society of Physician Assistants.
Donna Boss, RPA-C
Donna received her bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton and attended Long Island University for her training as a physician assistant. She joined the C. R. Wood Cancer Center staff in the fall of 2000. Donna is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the New York Society of Physician Assistants and the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology.
Lauren Cabana, RPA-C
Lauren received her bachelor's degree from State University of New York at Albany and attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine for her training as a physician assistant. She joined the C. R. Wood Cancer Center staff in the fall of 2011. Lauren is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New York Society of Physician Assistants.
